In the world of jewelry, quality and authenticity are of the utmost importance. But how can you as a customer be sure that your jewelery meets the standard promised? The answer lies in stamps and quality marking. In this text we dive into these areas to help you understand their importance and how Schalins works with them to ensure the best possible products.
Why stamps are important to your jewelry
Stamps on jewelry are small but powerful symbols that tell a lot about the quality and authenticity of a piece of jewelry. They act as a guarantee that you get what you pay for.
What is a stamp?
A stamp is a small marking on a piece of jewelry that provides information about its origin, the precious metal content and other important details. Some stamps are required by law and help ensure that jewelry meets specific standards, and others are voluntary.
There must always be a name stamp (also called a responsibility stamp) in combination with a fine content stamp CCM - stamp.
The different types of stamps:
- The Name Stamp: Identifies the manufacturer or importer and is mandatory on gold and platinum items over one gram. There must always be a name stamp.
- The place mark: Indicates where the piece of jewelery was made.
- The GR stamp: Used by members of the National Association of Goldsmiths for handmade jewellery.
- Kattfoten: A unique Swedish stamp that guarantees the right quantity and quality of the precious metal. Read more about Kattfoten here
- Fine content stamp: Shows the purity of the precious metal, e.g. 18K for gold.
- The year designation: Indicates the jewelry's year of manufacture.
- The CCM stamp: International guarantee for the quality of the precious metal.
Schalins' name stamp is today SCH, older jewelery can also be stamped SCHALINS, BÖS or BES but all show that it is Schalins who is the manufacturer of the jewellery.
Schalin's certificate
Rings with diamonds from Schalins are always delivered with a certificate filled out by Schalins Rings, where we state the carat content of gold, quality and carat weight of the diamonds and the date of delivery.
International certificate
Diamonds from 0.50 ct and above are also supplied with internationally accredited certificates, issued by independent international organizations such as GIA (Gemmological Institute of America), IGI (International Gemmological Institute) and HRD (Antwerp Institute of Gemmology).
The certificate is a document of value and together with stamps and the carat engraving it shows that the ring is not a plagiarism.
