In the world of jewelry, quality and authenticity are of utmost importance. But how can you as a customer be sure that your jewelry meets the standards promised? The answer lies in stamps and quality markings. In this text, we delve into these areas to help you understand their importance and how Schalins works with them to guarantee the best possible products.
Why stamps are important for your jewelry
Hallmarks on jewelry are small but powerful symbols that tell a lot about the quality and authenticity of a piece of jewelry. They act as a guarantee that you are getting what you pay for.
What is a stamp?
A hallmark is a small marking on a piece of jewelry that provides information about its origin, precious metal content, and other important details. Some hallmarks are required by law and help ensure that the jewelry meets specific standards, while others are optional.
There must always be a name stamp (also called a responsibility stamp) in combination with a fineness stamp CCM - stamp.
The different types of stamps:
- Name stamp: Identifies the manufacturer or importer and is mandatory on gold and platinum items over one gram. There should always be a name stamp.
- The place name: Indicates where the jewelry was made.
- GR stamp: Used by members of the Swedish Goldsmiths' Association for handmade jewelry.
- Kattfoten: A unique Swedish stamp that guarantees the correct quantity and quality of the precious metal. Read more about Kattfoten here
- The fineness stamp: Shows the purity of the precious metal, e.g. 18K for gold.
- Year designation: Indicates the year of manufacture of the jewelry.
- The CCM stamp: International guarantee of the quality of the precious metal.
The Schalins name stamp is today SCH, older jewelry may also have the stamp SCHALINS, BÖS or BES, but all show that it is Schalins who is the manufacturer of the jewelry.
Schalin's certificate
Rings with diamonds from Schalins are always delivered with a certificate completed by Schalins Ringar, where we state the karat content of the gold, quality and carat weight of the diamonds, and the delivery date.
International certificate
Diamonds from 0.50 ct and above are also delivered with an internationally accredited certificate, issued by independent international organizations such as GIA (Gemmological Institute of America), IGI (International Gemmological Institute) and HRD (Antwerp Institute of Gemmology).
The certificate is a document of value and together with the stamps and carat engraving, it shows that the ring is not a plagiarism.
