The craftsmanship behind a Schalinsring

A ring from us at Schalins is a Swedish craft. Our skilled craftsmen work with everything from design and alloy to jewel setting, polishing and engraving. When you buy your ring, we create it completely from scratch, starting from the day you order it. Here you get a little insight into how it works in our goldsmith's shop.

From grain to loaf

We melt gold, palladium and silver in a traditional way in our own furnaces. Most of it is done in 18 karat, but also in 14K.

The gold is then cast as three-meter rods which are then processed in a hammering machine into tubes.

The tubes are then cut to the current width and height, which are then heated to a precise temperature to achieve the correct softness and flexibility in further production.

The ring takes shape

Here, a ring is turned in a manual lathe. We also use automatic lathes that shape the ring all the more precisely when needed.

Jewel setting

Rings to be set now go to the jewel setting department. All setting takes place on site, in our own goldsmith's shop. The work is carried out by some of Sweden's most experienced jewelers.

The stone is in place

The stone is placed between the high claws, which must then be ground down to the correct height and shape.

The claws are filed

Once the diamond is securely in its chatong, the work begins with shaping and filing the prongs so that they surround the stone in the right way.

Polishing of ring

The ring and bezel are polished and polished to become highly polished and shimmeringly beautiful on your hand. The ring then goes through more polishings before delivery.

Most rings are engraved, either inside or outside. It can be names, dates, symbols or meaningful sentences. Since the engraving is personal, great care is required at this stage. Read more about engravings here. Each ring is then washed in an ultrasonic bath to ensure that impurities from production are removed.

At the final station, each ring is inspected in detail before delivery. If something is not to our satisfaction, the ring is returned for correction. Highest quality is our watchword at Schalins!
