Foundation
In 1944
Bror Schalin opens his shop on Prästgatan in Östersund, focusing on design and handcrafted silver. Among the early creations is the coffee spoon Jämtskogen, a piece that reflects both craftsmanship and local inspiration.
Generational Transition
In 1976
Bror Schalin’s son, Örjan Schalin, together with his then wife Ragnhild, takes over the company and eventually moves the business to larger premises on the same street. He successfully expands the sales of the coffee spoons, building the capital needed for future growth.
In the early 1980s, plans are set in motion for a new direction — focusing on engagement and wedding rings, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the company’s history.
Gold Manufacturing
In 1985
Gold ring production begins. Örjan invests in automation and personally builds many of the machines — including two of the world’s first automatic lathes designed specifically for ring manufacturing.
Growth
In 1988
Schalins outgrows its original premises and builds a brand-new facility in the industrial area of Östersund — marking an important step in the company’s continued growth and development.
Diamond Setting
In 1990
The diamond setting department is established.
Design Collaboration
In 2012
Örjan Schalin passes away unexpectedly. His son, Magnus Schalin, takes over as CEO, continuing the family legacy into a new era.
Towards the end of the year, a design collaboration with designer Lars Wallin begins to take shape — marking the start of an exciting creative partnership.
Change of Ownership
In 2014
The investment company Storskogen acquires Schalins.
Alloys & Metals
In 2017
Additional alloys are introduced — red gold, white gold, yellow gold, and rose gold in several different carat weights — expanding the possibilities for both design and personal choice.
New CEO
In 2022
Schalins appoints a new CEO — Sandra Lundqvist.
A new brand strategy and platform are developed, alongside the launch of the webshop, schalins.com — marking an important step in strengthening the brand’s digital presence and future growth.
Celebrating 80 Years
In 2024
Schalins celebrates 80 years.
A collaboration with Eva Röse is unveiled, alongside the launch of the anniversary collection Eloge — a tribute to eight decades of craftsmanship, design, and enduring love stories.
