about our stamps
Schalins prides itself on offering the highest quality jewellery, and a key part of this is our use of precious metal hallmarks. These stamps not only guarantee the jewelry's authenticity, but also provide important information about its origin and manufacture. Here we explain the different types of stamps used on our jewelery and how they ensure you get a premium product.
Types of stamps
The name stamp
The name stamp is a responsibility stamp that is mandatory on gold and platinum items weighing one gram or more. This stamp consists of the manufacturer's or importer's registered signature, which is unique to each company. In order to use this stamp, it must be registered with SWEDAC, the Swedish authority for accreditation and technical control. The name stamp acts as an identification code and guarantees that the company stands behind the quality and authenticity of the product. There must always be a name stamp (also called a responsibility stamp) in combination with a fine content stamp CCM - stamp.
The place mark
The place mark indicates the place of manufacture or the importer's residence. This makes it possible to interpret in which city the gold jewelry or other gold object is made. The place mark is currently voluntary. Schalins does not use the place mark.
The GR stamp
This stamp is only used by members of the National Association of Goldsmiths and guarantees that the jewelery is handmade by a qualified goldsmith. The GR stamp is a symbol of craftsmanship and tradition. It ensures that the jewelery is made to the highest standards and is the correct carat for silver, gold or platinum. Only jewelry that meets these requirements may bear this stamp.
Cat's foot
Schalins is proud to be one of the few manufacturers that today uses Kattfoten. This stamp is a control stamp which guarantees that the amount of precious metal in the jewelery is correct. The stamp was introduced in Sweden in 1752 and is unique in its kind, shaped like a cat's foot with three small crowns. The cat's foot shows that the gold is controlled by the Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE) through continuous independent tests. RISE is an independent control body that guarantees that we meet the strict requirements for the content of precious metals in our gold alloys. As a customer, you can therefore be convinced that the ring you buy from us has been manufactured under the very best quality and environmental control.
The fine content stamp
The fine content stamp indicates the amount of precious metal in the piece of jewellery, for example 18K for gold. This stamp is mandatory on gold and platinum items and informs the customer of the jewelry's exact precious metal content. For gold, common fineness marks are 9K (375), 14K (585), and 18K (750), while for platinum the 950 mark is. Through this stamp, the customer knows exactly what they are getting in terms of the purity of the precious metal. Schalins stamps the plane with Pt (the chemical designation) and 950.
The year designation
The year designation is a stamp that indicates the year of manufacture. Each year has a unique letter or number that represents the specific year the jewelry is made. Today, Schalins does not use this stamp, but on older objects it is included.
CCM stamp (Wave stamp)
This stamp is used in countries that are affiliated to the Precious Metals Convention and serves as an international guarantee for the quality of the precious metal. The CCM stamp looks like a wave and is a sign that the jewelry meets the international standards for precious metal content. For jewelry to be sold abroad, this stamp is required to ensure that it is accepted and recognized globally.
