Precious stones – beauty, durability and timeless elegance

Date: 2025/12/30

Gemstones have fascinated humans for thousands of years. Their color, luster, and rarity make them natural carriers of emotion, symbolism, and permanence. At Schalins Ringar, we work with natural gemstones, carefully selected for their quality, durability, and aesthetic balance – always with respect for craftsmanship and the inherent value of the material.

When choosing a ring with a gemstone, it's not just the appearance that matters. Hardness, wear resistance, and origin are crucial factors for how the stone performs in everyday life and across generations.

Mohs Hardness Scale – why it matters

One of the most important properties of a gemstone is its hardness, which is measured according to the Mohs Hardness Scale. The scale ranges from 1 to 10 and indicates how resistant the stone is to scratches.

  • 1–5: Soft stones, susceptible to wear
  • 6–7: Medium-hard stones, require some caution
  • 8–10: Very hard stones, suitable for daily wear

For rings – especially engagement and wedding rings – high hardness is an important part of long-term durability. Rings intended for use as cocktail rings and on special occasions can also feature softer stones.

Gemstones in Schalins' collections

Diamond – the ultimate symbol of permanence

Mohs hardness: 10

Diamond is nature's hardest material and an obvious classic for rings to be worn every day. Its exceptional durability is combined with a unique play of light that provides maximum brilliance. At Schalins, we use diamonds carefully selected for their color, clarity, and cut from suppliers who can guarantee traceability and have approved certification.

Sapphire – color, strength, and character

Mohs hardness: 9

Sapphires are known for their deep blue color but also occur in many other shades. Thanks to their high hardness, sapphires are an excellent choice for rings meant to last over time. Sapphires symbolize wisdom, loyalty, and security – values that harmonize well with Schalins' design language.

Aquamarine – clarity and serenity

Mohs hardness: 7.5–8

Aquamarine has its characteristic light blue hue reminiscent of the sea and sky. The stone is relatively hard and well-suited for rings, especially when carefully set. Its calm color makes it an elegant choice for those seeking something timeless yet personal.

Morganite – warm elegance in a rose tone

Mohs hardness: 7.5–8

Morganite belongs to the beryl family and is appreciated for its soft pink and peach-colored hues. It provides a warm and sophisticated look and is often used in rings where the design allows the stone's play of color to be highlighted. With the right setting, morganite is a beautiful and durable choice.

Snow white beryl – subtle luster and modern simplicity

Mohs hardness: 7.5–8

Snow white beryl is a more discreet gemstone with a clear, soft transparency. It appeals to those seeking understated elegance and an alternative to diamond, while maintaining an exclusive expression.

Natural gemstones – a conscious choice

Each stone is unique, shaped by nature over millions of years, with small variations that give character and authenticity. For us, this is a self-evident part of genuine craftsmanship and an investment in long-term value.

Enduring time

Choosing the right gemstone is about more than aesthetics – it's a choice for the future. With the right combination of design, material, and craftsmanship, Schalins creates rings that are made to be worn, loved, and passed down.
