10 Questions to Ask Before Buying a Wedding Ring – A Guide for Brides and Grooms
Buying a wedding ring is not a spur-of-the-moment purchase – it is one of the most emotional and important choices you will make before your wedding. It is not just about style or budget, but about creating a memory you will carry with you every day. Here are ten important questions to ask before buying a wedding ring, so that your choice is both beautiful and thoughtful.

1. What style suits us as a couple?
A wedding ring should reflect who you are – together. Maybe you gravitate towards minimalism, where a smooth white gold ring is all you need. Or maybe you love details, patterns and diamonds? At Schalins, there is a range of styles – from timelessly elegant to innovative and personal.
Tip: Browse through rings together. What do you find appealing? Make a mood board or album with your favorites and compare your impressions.
2. Should we have matching rings – or each one unique?
There is no right or wrong. Matching rings often symbolize unity and togetherness, while individual choices show that you are two people who complement each other. Many choose to have a similar shape or material – but with different widths, finishes or stone settings.
At Schalins you can design rings that go together without being identical. You will find inspiration in our couples' collections.

3. Which material suits our lifestyle and taste?
The choice of material affects both feel, durability and expression. Classic choices like red gold and white gold are always popular, but there are also alternatives like platinum, titanium – and for those who prefer a cooler tone: silver.
- Rose gold: Warm tone, traditional and durable.
- White gold: Elegant, stylish and often rhodium-plated for extra shine.
- Silver: Bright, timeless and affordable – suitable for those who want a discreet but beautiful material.
- Platinum: Very durable and exclusive, perfect for those who want maximum durability.
- Titanium: Extremely lightweight and durable – an excellent choice for those who live an active life.
Keep in mind that silver is a softer material than platinum or gold, for example, which means it can be scratched more easily. The advantage is that it can be easily polished again – and that it gives a vibrant surface over time.
Tip: Think about how your material choices work with any engagement ring. Schalins is happy to help you match and customize based on both style and function.

4. How do we find the right size – and what do we do if it doesn't fit?
A perfect fit is crucial. Too loose and it can fall off. Too tight and it will rub. Always try out your ring size in a quiet environment, preferably not after exercise, heat or cold weather (when your fingers can swell or contract).
You can use Schalin's size guide at home, read more here.
5. Do we want engraving – and what should we write?
Engraving makes the ring personal and memorable. It could be a date, name, nickname or a phrase that means a lot to you. Or why not something in Latin, a heart or a symbol? Read more about engraving here
6. What is our budget – and how does it affect the election?
A wedding ring is an investment, but that doesn't mean it has to break the budget. Think long-term: a quality ring will last a lifetime, especially when it's made with craftsmanship and durability in mind.
Schalins offers rings in different price ranges, but always with the same high quality and Swedish manufacturing. Consider whether you want to spend more on design, gemstones or matching the engagement ring.
7. Do we want diamonds or other stones?
One or more diamonds make the ring exclusive and sparkling, but there are other options as well. Consider practical aspects – if you work a lot with your hands, the setting may need to be protected (e.g. channel setting).
Schalins uses both conflict-free diamonds and law grown diamonds and offers different settings:
- Claw-mounted: Classic and striking
- Channel: Protected, modern
- Pavé: Densely placed small stones – luxurious glitter
Want something unique? Opt for colored stones or engrave a secret detail on the inside.

8. What surface and finish do we want?
The surface of the ring affects both expression and feel. Do you want something shiny or more toned down?
- Polished: Timeless classic
- Matte: Soft and modern feel
- Hammered: Craftsmanship and unique appearance
- Frosted/Brushed: Rustic and sober
All finishes can be combined with different shapes, widths and stone settings. Contact our Customer Service or chat with our Jewelry Advisors for more information!
9. When should we order our rings?
We recommend that you order at least 6-8 weeks before the wedding. This will give you plenty of time for manufacturing, any adjustments and delivery – without stress. Schalins manufactures each ring to order in our Swedish workshop with high precision.
Certain times of the year (such as spring and summer) are extra popular – remember to be out in good time!
10. What do we need to know about certificates and stamps?
When buying a wedding ring, it is important to feel secure in both origin and quality. All Schalin rings are stamped and certified according to Swedish regulations for precious metal work – which guarantees that you get exactly what you pay for.
With us, every ring gets:
- Hallmark , which shows which precious metal the ring is made of (for example 18K gold).
- Responsibility stamp , which indicates who is responsible for the manufacturing – in this case Schalins.
- Sweden's hallmark , which certifies that the jewelry meets the country's high standards for authenticity and quality.
In addition to stamps, every ring from Schalins always comes with a certificate. The certificate is proof of the ring's authenticity and contains details about the material, workmanship and any stone setting.
Why is this important?
Certification and stamps not only give you peace of mind – they also provide proof that your ring was made with care, responsibility and full transparency. It can also be valuable in future valuations or insurance.
